“Normal is Broke. Be Weird!”

June 25, 2012 in Money

Life has a way of keeping you on your toes, doesn’t it?  In our family and so many others across the nation we are all having to find creative ways to face the challenges of this current economy.

A year or so ago my husband and I participated in a seminar at our church called Financial Peace University.  Though I can’t say that we 100% followed all of the principles set forth by Dave Ramsey, I gotta say, given this guys personal track record, I think he’s on to something.

We had, fortunately, made the decision to follow the first couple of steps he suggested and as such got us through some difficult times:  i.e. job loss and birth of our child…who later needed surgery.  But times are still challenging which means we need to buckle down and get serious about our budgeting.  According to Dave:  Step 1.  Establish an emergency fund.

I’m naturally frugal and always looking for great ideas for saving money. I hope to find fun ideas and post them here in the near future.  Here’s to hoping for and planning on being “weird!”
